In audio recording, popping sounds often occur when pronouncing aspirated plosives. Pop filters are designed to reduce the energy of these sounds before they reach the microphone. Without a pop filter, recordings can suffer from clipping, which happens when the microphone is pushed beyond its intended input capacity.
