Film Camera

The Minolta SRT 201 SLR Film Camera

This video walks through the details of the Minolta SR-T 201 Film Camera. The featured camera was purchased in 1977. Your first impression of the camera would be the small size but heavier feel compared to today’s DSLR cameras. This camera contains more metal and less plastic than modern DSLR cameras. In this video we’ll look at the various dials and controls as well as the film loading and film travel methods. We’ll look inside the front to see the mirror that lifts out of the way when we push the shutter release. We’ll look at an MC Minolta Celtic 50mm, F 3.5, marco lens and an MC Minolta Celtic F 4.5, 200mm telephoto lens. We’ll also review controls for depth-of-focus preview, delayed shutter release, flash hot shoe, ISO and shutter speed settings and battery controls. We’ll look at the viewfinder, the tripod mount, focal plane synchronization and lens interchangeability.

The Minolta SRT 201 SLR Film Camera – Loading Film and Installing a Battery

I have a new roll of black and white print film that includes processing and I have a battery that claims to be a replacement for the old, discontinued PX-13 mercury battery that originally powered this camera. This camera hasn’t taken a picture for 20 years so there are many questions about how well it will function optically, electronically and mechanically. In this video we will load a roll of print film and install the battery. Then we’ll look through the viewfinder to see how the match needle exposure works. If the camera seems to be working properly we’ll take a roll of test shots in the next video. Then, we’ll send the film off for processing. In the final video of this series we’ll review the test photos together and then we can determine if this effort is a win or a fail.

The Minolta SRT 201 SLR Film Camera – Unloading the Film – Mail-In Processing – Photo Review

This video walks through the details of unloading the film canister from the Minolta SR-T 201 Film Camera. We send the film off for processing and then we review the photographic results and the performance of this this 42-year-old camera than hasn’t taken a picture in twenty years.

The Minolta SRT 201 SLR Film Camera Accessories

In this video we look at some of the commonly used accessories for the Minolta SR-T 201 35mm film camera. We start with two polarizing lens filters and we discuss their use. I’ve found one to be much easier to use because it has a handle. Then we move to an orange lens filter which is used with black and white film to darken skies and enhance cloud effects. We also explore accessories such as a viewfinder eye cup used to reduce flare and to make it easier to see through the viewfinder. We look at a shutter release cable as well as the camera’s self-timer as ways to reduce vibration when using a tripod. The shutter release cable also locks making it useful for subjects such as fireworks and for time lapse photography when the camera’s shutter is set at “B”. Finally, we demonstrate the Soligor MK-10A electronic flash. This versatile and powerful flash unit could rotate horizontally and vertically and could be taken off-camera while maintain light readings at the camera’s hot shoe.
